Corps History
The conduct of First Aid lectures for citizens of Singapore marked the advent of St. John Brigade, proudly established in 1935 by Dr J.S Webster. A large number of first aiders were recruited to facilitate these lectures, and upon recruitment and progress, the First Division was eventually established in September 1938.
In 1952, the St. John Council, comprising of highly-skilled and professional Singapore citizens who were willing to serve the association, was formed to oversee activities of the association. 8 years later, St. John's current National Headquarters was officially opened in Beach Road by Encik Yusoff Ishak.
Thereafter, the Cadet Proficiency Badge Scheme (CPBS) was introduced in 1990 and has been evidently successful in equipping the members of St. John with essential skills as well as fueling the interests of members in various aspects of recreational activities. Following that, a restructure in 1996 engendered the formation of 10 Zones, which are each further fragmented into divisions known as Corps, made possible by a firmly structured communication network. The development of the Corps also allows for learning to be catered to a smaller group of members, for each member to takeaway a promising set of knowledge and skills.
Today, St. John Brigade continues to provide our best service to the public, by utilising our expertise in First Aid, Foot Drill, Transportation of Casualty, and Home Nursing to the full, and to relentlessly pursue excellence and take pride in ourselves and our actions.
